About Marfa

Located on a high plateau in the upper range of the Chihuahuan Desert, Marfa has many of the cultural offerings that one would expect to find in much larger cities presented against a back drop of exquisite natural beauty, vast dramatic skies and a wonderful climate. Marfa Vista’s broker/owner, Mary Farley, came to Marfa eight years ago from New York after hearing about minimalist Donald Judd’s installations in Marfa. The unexpected yet perfect marriage of minimalism and Marfa’s austerely beautiful frontier town mesh to provide a delightful area devoted as much to art and cultural pursuits as it is to maintaining a relaxed and friendly atmosphere to enjoy the surrounding landscape and laid back vibe. The structure of the houses reflect this sentiment with clean lines and a stately simplicity. Marfa has become an artworld mecca for those seeking a more direct experience with art as well as a place that is a quiet and discreet get away destination. Museums, a top notch bookstore, as well as great food, has drawn many visitors back to Marfa repeatedly as their favorite spot to get away from it all. Let us help you to find your perfect spot in town in an old adobe or a piece of land where you can site your own custom Marfa home.

About Our Team

Mary Farley

Broker/Sales Director

Moving to Marfa for a temporary sabbatical in 2004, I quickly became enamored of the town and the stunning landscape of the high desert. Having worked in the art business in New York for years, Marfa was a easy fit. Buying an old adobe compound near the center of town and beginning renovations started an interest in real estate in Marfa that began my career as a licensed real estate agent. I opened Marfa Vista Real Estate in 2013 to specialize in Marfa properties and to provide long term management services through the company. Having extensive experience in all aspects of Marfa real estate transactions, I can help you correctly price, sell and negotiate purchases. Buying and selling real estate in Marfa is a unique experience and we are here to try and make that experience a professional and pleasant one.

After completing my undergraduate work in fine art at the University of Texas, I moved to Manhattan where I worked in the art world in various capacities for many years. Having always had an interest in psychology, I decided to pursue a graduate degree in forensic psychology from John Jay Criminal Justice College as well as a graduate degree in clinical social work from NYU. I worked with a forensic clientele in a private clinic in Manhattan. After working in a capacity as a therapist and supervisor in a clinic setting, I started to transition to private practice. At this point I decided to take a break and spend some time in Marfa before settling into a full time practice. Needless to say the charms of Marfa prevailed and Marfa has become my primary residence.

Liz started visiting Marfa in 2017 when her work in the arts brought her here, and she has made the leap to full-time resident. Liz and Marfa are a natural fit where her diverse background of professional experience, ranging from finance to fine art, can find a productive outlet. Early in her career, she worked in custody banking while maintaining an interest in the arts. After receiving her Masters Degree from NYU, she worked in the art world in Manhattan for many years in varying capacities, from blue chip galleries and museums to working with artists directly and managing their studios. She simultaneously sustained her interest in business and real estate, buying and renovating investment properties and founding and co-owning a bar in Brooklyn. Her knowledge of art and business, along with an ability to connect with the client and match them with a great property, has made her a true asset at Marfa Vista. Liz listens to her clients, has a great aesthetic, and can be an expert navigator through the ins and outs of the buying and selling process. Her knowledge of banking facilitates, working with lenders on the buying side, provides a level of expertise to the process. Working with Liz, you know you are getting the attention and best service possible in what is often the most important transaction in one's life.
